Exhaust System

General Information

In a four stroke combusion cycle, the forth stage is exhaust. After the air-fuel mixture combusts, exhaust gases are leftover and must be expelled from the cylinders. The job of the car's exhaust system is to pull the exhaust gases out of the cylinders, convert pollutants to less harmful substances, and expell them into the outside air.

Most cars' exhaust systems contain the following components:

• Exhaust manifold
• Catalytic converter
• Oxygen sensors
• Exhaust pipe
• Muffler
